A women’s leather motorcycle jacket is a one-time investment – only if you get it right! All fashionistas know that a leather jacket is a gift that keeps giving. Just throw it over any outfit, and you will see the vibe go from doom to boom!
It’s effortless, timeless, and most importantly, it’s incredible – it can make your dull outfit look oh-so-chic!
Stemming from a practical need, the motorcycle jacket was initially only reserved for men’s clothing. Personalities like James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Elvis Presley used to wear it!
However, over the years, women’s leather motorcycle jacket has started to take over the runways and street style. And thankfully so, because it turns out, women can pull it off quite well (better than men, at least) and that too in a much wider range of styles (Looking at you, Miss Kate Moss)!
It’s also one of the wardrobe pieces that have sustained their charm throughout over a century – and of course, for all the good reasons! It’s an enduring wardrobe staple that roars along the bold, punk vibe, delivering the needs of all those who’d like to dress with an edge.
These jackets are stylish, bold, functional, and as I said earlier, can take any outfit from a zero to a solid hundred in a flash!
Jackets are generally assumed to have come in monochrome colors, but now they are available in a wide variety of prints, colors, and fits. These also make the perfect choice of clothing for transitional weather like fall and spring.
But perhaps one of the best things about women’s leather jackets is the fact that they are also very versatile. Style them with anything from skirts to sweats and ta-da! Instant swag.
Here are the five classic ways to style a women’s motorcycle jacket:
1. With a dress and boots
The combination of a dress and a leather jacket is just so amazing! While the dress gives your outfit a feminine touch, a moto jacket gives the much-needed edge to enhance your overall look.
It pairs well with mini/midi-length dresses, most particularly a silk slip dress worn beneath a black jacket will be a perfect day-to-night outfit. It’s effortless and appropriate for office wear (especially over a turtleneck), and playful enough for drinks later on.
Pairing your leather with a frillier or light-colored dress would be better. For footwear, however, you can experiment. I prefer white sneakers, or high-ankle boots will also do fine. Finally, keep your accessories to a minimum, and you’re ready for the evening!
Pro tip: If you’re going for a daytime brunch or a night out, pair your motorcycle jacket with a plaid mini skirt. Find a combination that has almost the same hem length to create a satisfying balance.
2. Rock monochrome styles
A monochronic outfit seems easy to pull off, but it requires a little more effort to find the matching separates. Begin with the color of your motorcycle, then find other pieces that match. Okay, so all you can think of is black? Well, it is the easiest color to find.
But this time, I dare you to opt for any other color than black, maybe a subtle brown or beige, or magenta, a bold red, or something funkier like blue or green would also look good – the choice is yours.
We have seen Gigi Hadid championing a similar monochronic outfit at Fendi’s Fall 2022 runway show. She was seen in an all-brown ensemble consisting of a brown jacket, leather skirt, bag and leather boots.
I prefer darker colors like navy blue… A Blue biker with a blue T-shirt and dark blue denim – how iconic, doesn’t it?
3. Biker with shorts
Gone are the days when shorts were only limited to summer wear, now it’s 2022, baby! Shorts are the new fall wear. Pair it with a camisole, a pair of pumps (or boots, all I care), and a leather biker jacket to pull off a perfect date night look!
For me, this is elegance with an edge! While the shorts add a youthful, fun twist to your outfit, the leather jacket gives you a chic, modern, and bold touch to your overall attire.
Finally, get in those high-heeled pumps, and finish it off with extravagant jewelry. Put on red lipstick, and girl, you’d be rocking!
Pro tip: A moto jacket also looks amazing with a turtleneck since it goes with the outfit’s simplicity while giving it an element of sophistication (also, the warmth!).
4. Layer it up but with style!
Layering your jacket is a perfect way to keep yourself warm during days when the temperature drops. You can do this in two ways: layering under and layering over.
You can add an oversized black, floor-length coat over a black leather jacket – similar to what JUUN J wore in the Fall 2021 runway show. For an elegant look, throw a faux fur vest over your biker jacket, and you’ll be turning heads all evening.
Make sure to have a plus size from whatever usually fits; this way, it won’t be too snug or tight. This styling will add a fashionable flair to your attire while keeping you safe from catching cold.
5. Double up the leather!
If you are in doubt, double up your leather dose! An all-leather look is equal to the Canadian tuxedo – but much cooler!
Add a classic motorcycle jacket over a black button-up tee and black leather jeans to achieve this look. Throw a pair of black leather heels and a leather bag into the mix, and you’re ready to roll!
Make sure to have a light-toned bag to balance out the all-blacks.
That’s it for the day! Hope you’d like our round-up. Don’t forget to share your pictures with us if you choose to style your moto in one of the ways mentioned above.
