You are important, and it’s time that you started choosing yourself over everything else. Sometimes this is going to be the hardest thing that you have to do, and you have to acknowledge that you are worth the time and effort that you need to put into yourself. Your health is the one thing in the world that you can actually control because you are in charge of yourself, so why are you not currently doing this?
It’s time to stop ignoring your health, and instead take responsibility for it so that you can start improving it. How can you do that? We’re glad that you’ve asked. We’re going to take a look at some of the things that you should do. We know that this list is daunting, and you don’t have to do it all at once, but baby steps at first.
Work On Eating A Balanced Diet
The first thing that we are going to say is that you should work on eating a balanced diet to the best of your ability. If you are not used to this then it is going to be very difficult to rewire your brain to want to eat the healthier foods, but it can be done. Do you know where most people go wrong? They try to do too much, too fast. Instead of making small changes to their diet and then gradually making these changes a little more, and a little more, they try to flip the whole thing which is never going to work.
You need to start by adding some vegetables to each meal. This could mean a side of broccoli, it could mean you puree some vegetables and put them in a sauce, there are so many options. As long as you are getting the vegetables into your meal, it doesn’t really matter how you are doing this. From there, you can make more changes, and more changes, until you are eating balanced meals regularly and treating yourself occasionally instead of the other way around.
Make Time Everyday For Exercise
The excuse that you do not have time to exercise is just made up to make yourself feel better, and it’s time that you gave it up. The time for excuses is long gone, now is the time for action. Exercise is one of those things that your body needs if it wants to be healthy, so you’ve got to stop avoiding it like it’s the plague, because it simply isn’t. We’re not saying that you need to complete high intensity workouts on a daily basis, but you do need to put some effort into your exercise schedule.
For some people this is going to mean going for a walk in the morning and/or the evening. Other people are going to want to go to the gym because they feel more motivated there and this is completely okay. You need to do whatever you feel is best for you, no matter what that is. If this means that you need to get up half an hour earlier so that you have time, then this is what you have to do. Go to bed half an hour earlier if you’re worried about missing out on sleep.
Try To Get Enough Sleep
Speaking of sleep, you need to be getting around seven hours per night if you want to be as healthy as possible. We know that for some people this is simply not an option, such as if you have a young baby or insomnia, but you need to do your best. If you’re struggling with sleep then there are a number of things that you can try to get yourself in a better sleeping pattern. For example, going to bed and waking up at the same time everyday is a good way to program your brain to sleep. If this doesn’t work, then you should look at implementing a bedtime routine for yourself so that your brain associates this sequence of events with going to bed.
A few more things that you can try include things like having warm milk before bed, removing all electronics from your bedroom before you try to sleep, getting blackout blinds and more. Do whatever it takes to get yourself into a place where you are well rested, because sleep is essential to both your mental and physical health.
Kick Those Unhealthy Habits
If you have unhealthy habits, then we’ve got to kick them. Yes, it’s much easier said than done, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. The thing is that you are never going to break any habit unless you want to, because you are the one who has got to do all of the hard work. You are the one who has got to put the effort in, you are the one who has got to fight those urges in your head that tell you that you need to feed the habit. If needed, there are different options for addiction treatment so that you can get the help that you need and start to move forward with your life.
The first step is admitting that you have a problem, because only once you have acknowledged the habit can you start working to beat it. The first step is the hardest, but we know that you can do it if you want to choose yourself.
Speak To Someone About Your Mental Health
There are too many people in the world who try to hide from their mental health rather than facing the fact that there is a problem. We know that this is common, but this doesn’t make it okay. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and if you’re going to be taking care of yourself going forward then you need to be willing to talk about your thoughts and feelings. There are options when it comes to who you want to speak to, so don’t force yourself to speak to someone you don’t feel comfortable with.
Consider your friends, your family members, or even a professional depending on the level of help that you need. As long as you are not isolating yourself from the people that you love and potentially making it worse, that is all that matters.
Drink Two Liters Of Water Everyday
The last thing that we want to say is that you should be aiming to drink around two liters of water every single day. It might seem like an impossible task, but we bet those energy drinks and coffees that you drink don’t seem impossible. It feels like you could live off of those things, doesn’t it? Well, start changing some out for glasses of water and you will see a massive improvement. It might take some time, but your body will really start to feel better when you are properly hydrating it and giving it what it needs.
There is nothing that you could do in this world that would make you unimportant. We know that choosing to be healthy, and choosing to look after yourself is not always going to be easy, but it’s going to be worth it. It’s time that you started choosing yourself, and not this path of self destruction that you have willingly or unwillingly put yourself on. It’s going to take time, and you’re going to struggle, but everything that is worth having in life is going to be a challenge. We hope that you can turn it around and get your health in a better position asap.
