When summer is fast approaching, this means more outdoor time with the family! The sun is great and the weather is warm. There’s a myriad of activities to do outside, and one of the most well-loved destinations is the beach. You can swim, sunbathe, build sandcastles with the children, relax, go boating, and have delicious seafood, among many others.
As you take care of your family during this season, don’t forget to give yourself some love, too! Moms can still look great in that bikini and summer dress, and there’s no reason for you not to.
If you’ve been feeling the need for that added push with your body and skin, here are some insightful tips on how you can get beach ready:
1. Prioritize Healthy Meals
If you’ve been snacking on junk lately, then now’s the time for you to make that difference in your meals. Remember, fitness and losing the ‘mom weight’ isn’t just about looking good. Rather, it’s also about feeling healthier and better about yourself. When you’re healthier, you’ll also have more energy to take you through long and hot summer activities with the children.
A good place to start is in your kitchen. Slowly swap out all the unhealthy meals you may still have with healthier options. There are many recipes you can try online.
Are you a busy mom with no time to whip up healthy meals all the time? That’s totally understandable since every mom’s been through that. You can try out meal prepping, so cooking won’t have to feel like such a chore. With meal prepping, you’ll have sliced-up vegetables ready anytime you need a snack, so you won’t be tempted to reach out for junk.
2. Keep Your Skin Moisturized
The weather during the summer months is nice, but it can also be harsh on the skin. Because of the heat, one of the most common skin concerns during the summer seasons is suffering from dry skin. So, you’ve got to catch up with keeping it hydrated.
No matter how busy of a mom you may be, there are little tips and tricks you can do to keep your skin hydrated. These include:
- Avoid long, hot showers. These can damage your skin’s lipid barriers, which makes it harder to retain skin moisture;
- Moisturize after bathing. Don’t just focus on your face and neck. Apply a hydrating lotion to your skin as well;
- Protect your skin from UV rays. Have sunscreen for you and your kids.
3. Create Your Own Healthy Juices
Water does wonders for your body and your skin! But on those days when you absolutely need a refreshing juice, opt to make your own instead. Store-bought juices are laden with sugar and preservatives, and these don’t contribute to making your skin and body look better. If you aren’t careful, you may be taking in a lot of sugar that can make you gain weight.
Create your juices, instead. Plus, this is also a great way to sneak in some vegetables for your kids if you’ve got picky eaters who detest their veggies.
4. Exfoliate!
If you can’t find the time to give yourself the spa retreat to exfoliate, then buy yourself a good exfoliating cream and a scrubber. You can exfoliate while you shower at least twice a week. You can leave your skin looking new and refreshed when all the dead skin cells are removed.
As much as possible, you may opt for exfoliants with natural ingredients rather than microplastics. By doing so, you’re not only doing yourself a favor, but you’re becoming an eco-friendly mama as well.
5. Dedicate One Day Per Week (At Least) To Exercise
Depending on how much of a busy mom you may be, not everyone has the time to incorporate a good exercise routine every single day. So, Fitness Fridays it is! Or any other day, for that matter.
Set a time at least once a week to be with your friends for a dedicated time to exercise. Whether it be at the gym or an hour’s jog or run, that’s still better than nothing. Then, on all those other days in the week, if you’ve got extra time in the day while the kids are in school or when they’re playing by themselves and the baby is asleep, get up for half an hour and get moving.
Conclusion
The tips above aren’t all that you can do, but they give you a good start on snacking and sweating yourself toward a healthier, better-looking body and skin for the summer. Most importantly, in closing, take it easy on yourself. It took you nine months (and perhaps even more, if you’ve got multiple children now) to gain those extra pounds. So, don’t expect changes overnight. Take it one day at a time, and see yourself feeling a tad bit more confident on that swimsuit which you may haven’t worn in a long time now.
